Taking care of mom is a huge one since mom often gets lost in the shuffle. I DO work outside the home along with homeschooling three of my small children. It’s not a piece of cake, but I’ll show you how I manage. If there's still too much for everyone, consider what you may be able to hire out. Perhaps just having someone clean your bathrooms once a week would lighten the load or maybe you need to hire someone to maintain the lawn.

I love that you and your husband have found a way to make it work. Homeschooling offers so much freedom and flexibility. And like you said, it’s so much more efficient than other ways of educating.
I have 4 boys between the ages of 3 and 9. I’ve worried that I won’t be able to give my kids and house the attention I should, but it really comes down to priorities and organization, doesn’t it? I’m a single mom working outside the home part time+ while homeschooling my 2nd grader. WOW am I glad I have foud this…..so many gems here! There are forums, essays and all sorts of help, from practical tips to simple reassurances that it CAN be done.
What Hours Do You Homeschool If You Are Working?
You don’t have to be married and homeschool, but it’s helpful if you have someone who is willing to help you. If you have a spouse, get them on board with the whole homeschooling thing. Having your spouse’s help can be a true lifesaver. You can each take turns teaching the kids. Discipline is about learning yourself and your child’s triggers. There were times I had to give my kids and myself a break.
You can build more and more learning independence. If you are working, you need them to understand that you will not be there at all times. Give them a plan of action if they get stuck, because they’re going to get stuck. They’re going to forget what you said. They’ll support you through the highs and the lows. Holidays are also a great time to really catch up as needed. You won’t need to take every single holiday and not have fun. Kids don’t need seven hours straight of schoolwork. You can do like an hour or two and then you’re off for the rest of the day. I should be in bed but instead, I chat with a mom on Facebook about homeschooling and the exhausting day she’s had. We swap life with teen stories and then I close up. Happy we’ve been able to connect, after all knowing you are not alone is a big reason of why I do what I do. After supper, the dishes are done (again!) I clean up and make the coffee for tomorrow. Happily, tomorrow is a full school day and I don’t have to leave the house.

When we get home from work, we will review their work, or tackle a subject that requires our help or attention. They have sports, meeting with a tutor, and other extracurricular various days of the week. Homeschooling allowed us to travel off-season, to expand our kids’ interest deeper into subjects they were passionate about.
Her system taught me to do one thing at a time, and to chip away for short, focused periods. I can’t take a full day to deep-clean my house. But I can take 15 minutes that I’d otherwise waste playing phone games and vacuum one floor of the house. I can take 15 minutes and sort out a drawer full of junk that’s gotten hard to close – and so can you.
For most of us, this is the LOWEST priority item when it’s compared with your kids’ learning, your work and your personal life. That’s actually why I’m starting with it. Make yourself a list, though, of what you need to juggle today. Not an idealistic, “Boy, it’d be nice to wash the insides and outsides of all the windows while the baby’s napping” type of list.
My kids were used to me sitting right beside them doing the schoolwork. I start with the program they already knew. Start with something they’re familiar with, whether it’s a workbook, an online program, whatever they’re used to using.
